I've been trying to figure out how to put in accents for my French friends. Accute is as far as I've got. All this computerese is hard to understand.

If you don't have too many to do, assuming you're using a PC, you can open up a program called Character Map which is in Start > Programs > Accessories. I think it may be in a subfolder, but I've moved mine around and don't remember what the default is. Just look around for it. With that program running, you can find the character you're looking for, select it with your mouse and then click a button that says "Copy". Then go back to what you're writing and paste it, using Ctrl-V. It can become tedious if you have to use a whole lot of them, but after a while you get used to it and it's not too bad.
