There is still snow on the southern side of our yard, underneath the fence.
I notice funny, dry buds. Were they there all winter, my eyes blind to them?
I stopped to look at a squirrel and it stopped to look at me as if it was wondering if I would give it some food.
I also stopped for a delicious three minutes in the middle of all the hubbub at Yonge and Dundas. I watched a spot on the sidewalk over which a tiny piece of paper blew and listened to all the noises including a fire engine and a small man playing a long eastern string instrument with a bow. At dusk I stole some lines from Hopkins:
I caught this evening
In sunset's glory
The jet stream high
Of a silver fish
As it swept smooth on a bow bend.
Would it approach the moon
Sleeping on her back
High there
Or disappear
In transparent clouds?
I have pink eye and now it is bothering me.

Mark, I'm sure you will read this, so here it goes again: update your blog list, please.
J.M. Hopkins is one of my favorites.

Mark, I see you added me after I applied the proper pressure. Ouch. Now, I feel totally lousy. Forgive me, mon ami. This is the ugly side of any relationship, I guess.

My father told me that we were distantly related. I beieve he was an Anglican priest so, presumably, not through any of his issue. I own only three books of poetry. His words, learned at school, occur spontaneously in my brain as easily as Cole Porter song lyrics.

What are the other two books of poetry you own? I too love the songs of Cole Porter and Irving Berlin but for me the master song/wordsmith is Sondheim

Who wrote the lyrics for My Fair Lady? I think they are brilliant, keep Shaw's style and rhyme the couplets ingeniously.
As to Poetry, Shakespear's sonnets and Faber and Faber's Verse and Worse, which I did not see when we moved. Did I lend it to YOU?

:( , :)

Nope, not guilty. Isn't it annoying when one knows that something has been put somewhere and you just can't find it. Then it of course becomes a matter of obsessive urgency to locate it.

Keep searching.

Lyrics to musicals? Why, I can get into this conversation. Cole Porter, Sondheim, Irving Berlin. I guess music does unite us after all.

George and Ira Gershwin.Bernie Taupin. Paul Simon. Leonard Cohen. My Fair Lady were Lerner and Lowe, but I know nothing about them and am too lazy to check wikipedia.
