For almost a year I have so enjoyed the bare walls of our new house. We chose paint colours carefully and I am well satisfied with the results. Now Cathy has asked me to buy the dreaded picture hooks. There is not a picture we own that does not bore me to tears even if I spent much money on them in the past when I had fallen in love with them. Now I feel that they are mere emblems of our supposed good taste, to be flaunted before our visitors. "And see what we have over here and here and here". Much better we should suspend ten mirrors, but we won't hang one, I suspect. This is what our walls will look like next.

Shudders.

I know exactly what you mean. I am tired of the things hanging on our walls and am inclined to think bare walls would be a big improvement. Sigh.

Ah! Time for compromising again! I bet you are a minimalist at this stage of life. Only when we moved to this cottage on the coast we began to agree on colors and style. All the rest, we fought, we moped, we refused to live with certain things.

We are in negotiation. One for her, one for me, so far....
