Is that first picture Madame Earhart?
was she not a natural blond? What interested the writer was the examination through self portraits of gender and an antagonism to the rise of fascism during her time. She considered her more advanced than the surrealists who have retained fame, in particular, she cited that the photographer had stated what Rene Magrite tried to show us some time later. That was the gist of it, anyway; I think.
